Guests who need full accessibility should book travel on the Spirit of Queenstown catamaran, which operates in place of the Earnslaw during the ship's annual maintenance and is wheelchair accessible on its main deck.

Boarding at Steamer Wharf: What to expect

  • Check in and board at the RealNZ Visitor Centre, right on the Steamer Wharf boardwalk where the ship docks.
  • Arrive at least 30 minutes before departure — boarding is on a first-come basis with unassigned seating, so earlier arrivals get first pick of window seats in the Promenade Café or spots near the engine room.
  • Boarding closes 10 minutes before departure. Tickets are scanned at the gangway; if you're holding a voucher without a scannable barcode, exchange it for a boarding pass at the Visitor Centre desk before joining the queue.
  • Note that the TSS Earnslaw, Spirit of Queenstown, and all Walter Peak facilities are cashless; card payment only.

Disembarking at Walter Peak

At Walter Peak, the ship docks directly at the farm's own jetty — there's no separate transfer or walk from a car park, since the jetty is the only access point to the station. Staff guide passengers off the ramp straight onto the farm, where the sheepdog show, farm tour, BBQ dining or horse trek begins a short walk from the dock.
